SSYO Welcomes our new Wind Ensemble Conductor

Martin Zavadil
Martin Zavadil recently retired from
Shenendehowa High School where he was Director of Bands at the West High School.
His teaching career spanned thirty-seven years of public school Instrumental
Music Education in several school districts in New York State.
He received his undergraduate degree at SUNY Fredonia and has done extensive
graduate work at the Lake Placid Institute, Saratoga-Potsdam Institute, Ithaca
College, Long Island University, Marywood College, and the University of
Minnesota.
Mr. Zavadil is a NYSSMA All-State and Major Organization adjudicator, has served
on the Executive Board of the New York State Field Band Conference, is a member
of the All-State Selection Committee and has conducted several
All-County and Area All-State Festivals.
He is an active performer in the Capital District and has studied trumpet with
Edward Carroll, international trumpet soloist and Director of the Lake Placid
Institute. Currently, Mr. Zavadil is the conductor of the Schoharie Valley
Concert Band, is a member of the New York State Band Director’s Association,
National Band Association, American Concert Bands, International Trumpet Guild, and the Saratoga Musicians Union.
Mr. Zavadil resides with his wife in Ballston Spa, NY.
