What Is SSYO ?

Saratoga Springs Youth Orchestra (SSYO) is a non-profit youth orchestra serving the Capital District through Lake George region. SSYO was founded in 1998 as a string orchestra. In 1999 SSYO expanded to a full orchestra open to Strings, Winds, Brass and Percussion. For the 2000-2001 season we expanded further with the addition of both a Wind Ensemble plus a Chamber Music Program. The 2001-2002 season was even more exciting with a Concerto Competition in March 2002 and the world premiere of a new composition by Welsh composer Hilary Tann at the historic Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in May 2002. We continued to provide our young musicians with unique and exciting growth opportunities in our most recently completed season, including a concert with the Saratoga Children's Chorus and a Side-By-Side Concert with the Glens Falls Symphony.

SSYO represents an exciting and growing opportunity for talented and dedicated young musicians in the eastern Upstate New York region to expand their musical accomplishments beyond their school orchestras. Our students have played in some excellent venues with some of the areas' most distinguished professional musicians.

Music   Director Ubaldo Valli  is our conductor for our Chamber Orchestra and the Full Symphony Orchestra.  Also our Wind Ensemble conductor  is  Martin Zavadil.
