Who We Are
SSYO is a youth organization dedicated to
fostering excellence in musical arts through structured rehearsal and
community performance opportunities throughout the capital region with an
emphasis on developing natural musical talents and capitalizing on learning
opportunities for teen musicians with a keen interest in performance in
symphony orchestra, chamber, wind and/or jazz ensembles in local communities
under the guidance and direction of noteworthy New York State professional
musicians, conductors and performing artists.
SSYO was founded in the late 1990’s and has
grown steadily from a small string and wind ensemble to over an 80 member
organization with year round performances including gigs for local
non-profits, health care organizations and community arts programs. The
mission of the organization is to foster musical excellence through
pedagogical and performance based musical experiences to supplement the teen
musician’s experiences in school and related musical venues. We seek to
provide leadership, mentoring, performance techniques and social pragmatics
in facilitating and exciting environment to foster future leaders in the
arts in performance, appreciation and management positions.
